The first thing you should know if English is not your first language is that your accent is not bad. It’s just nonstandard to an American English listener. We offer programs and training that are unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
The intonation and melody of American English are central to Be Understood. Even heavily accented individuals are better understood IF they speak using the American English pattern of Intonation. With Be Understood you will see a difference in just a few short weeks in your confidence and clarity.
While better pronunciation is also helpful, its importance is less crucial. We identify a few American English sounds you do not hear in your native tongue but are frequently used in American English.You will gain confidence and be understood better by others by combining these targeted sounds with American intonation.
Linda earned a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2003 before founding Be Understood. In 2015, she became a private pilot, an accomplishment that affects everything she does.
She is married and has two grown sons and a daughter-in-law. She enjoys outdoor adventures, skiing, traveling, and volunteering. She regularly builds homes with the charity Cambiando Vidas for families in poor farming communities in the Dominican Republic.
